Congratulations to all the terrific filmmakers who made it into the 2009 Wild Rose!
 It was an especially tough decision this year. We had many wonderful submissions, but only had room to screen these 35 films below.

I wanted to get the screening notifications posted by today. Schedule and nominees will be posted on or before 10/26. If you are able to come, please let me know. We have some wonderful workshops and seminars for you. Hope to see you all at the Wild Rose!

 7th Annual Wild Rose Returns to Popular East Village Venue!

AriesWorks Entertainment announces the call for entries into the exciting, international 7th annual event, the 2009 Wild Rose Independent Film Festival, to be held November 5-8 in Des Moines’ popular East Village at the Iowa State Historical Building.

Filmmakers worldwide are invited to send their features, shorts, documentaries and animated films in to “The Wild Rose” to compete for screening slots and the WRIFF’s many awards and cash prizes in categories including: acting, directing, editing, cinematography/videography, writing and others. Established filmmakers as well as emerging or student filmmakers are encouraged to enter their best work.

The State Historical Building proved to be a hit last year as a venue, allowing filmmakers and moviegoers walking distance access to a wide variety of restaurants, bars, music venues and shops in the trendy, fun East Village Cultural and Entertainment District.  For out of town attendees, lodging in the downtown Des Moines area also is conveniently located nearby.

The WRIFF not only raises the bar by featuring the most innovative, top quality independent films from around the world, it also hosts informative filmmaking seminars with known industry professionals. Past Festival Presenters have included:

Wild Rose Independent Film Festival
A Celebration of Independent Film and Video Production


The wild rose is the official flower of the state of Iowa, a thing of beauty growing “in the wild.”  Now in its seventh year, the Wild Rose Independent Film Festival is a celebration of the vast, diverse, bizarre, hilarious, beautiful cinema art being created by independent moviemakers outside the mainstream.  The 2009 Wild Rose Independent Film Festival is scheduled for November 5-8 at the Iowa State Historical Building in the East Village Cultural and Entertainment District of Des Moines, Iowa.

2009 Wild Rose Independent Film Festival
Screening and Judging Process:
The Administrative Staff of the Wild Rose Independent Film Festival shall have sole and final discretion in the choice of films to be screened at the festival. The Wild Rose and its authorized associates shall appoint additional judges for, supervise, and participate in, the judging process and the assignment of any Awards by the festival. From the screening selections, the Wild Rose judging panel will determine nominees and award-winners. Unless otherwise announced, all pictures screening at the Festival will be considered for all appropriate awards with up to five nominees in each category. The Wild Rose staff reserves the right to eliminate, or not to make, any Award, should circumstances warrant. 
Features are defined as 60 MINUTES OR LONGER (excluding end credits).  Shorts are SHORTER than 60 minutes (excluding end credits).
All winners receive a plaque, naming them the “Best of,” with remaining nominees receiving certificates.

Submission Guidelines:
Filmmakers are responsible for ensuring that their motion pictures are free of legal or other encumbrances.  Neither the Wild Rose nor any of its Staff or Associates shall bear any responsibility for infringement of copyright, breach of rights (i.e. music rights), or any other transgression which is reasonably understood to be under the filmmaker(s)’ control. Though the staff of the Wild Rose shall exercise all good judgment and care in handling filmmakers’ submissions, filmmakers agree to hold the Wild Rose Independent Film Festival harmless for any damages and/or fees associated with their submissions and the shipping of same.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON STUDENT ENTRIES:  To qualify as a student entry, either the film’s producer or director must have been enrolled in an academic institution at the time of the film’s production.  Students must provide documentation of student status (i.e. copy of student photo I.D.; transcripts, etc.) with entries.

Filmmakers may submit press kits at their own discretion and expense.  Filmmakers whose work is selected for inclusion in the festival and who wish their films screened via DVD MUST ALSO provide a VHS back-up for emergencies!!  Selected filmmakers must submit a digital press kit and may also submit posters, photographs and trailers (DVD only) for the Wild Rose’s use in promotion.
